AquaSox extend their contract with Mariners through 2012
The Everett AquaSox and Seattle Mariners have agreed to a two-year extension of their player-development contract, binding the teams' affiliation through the 2012 baseball season. The agreement was finalized Wednesday afternoon.
The AquaSox have been the Mariners' short-season Class A team since 1995.
"We are excited to extend our great partnership with the Mariners," AquaSox executive vice president Tom Backemeyer said. "It's a perfect fit on all levels, and we are thrilled that AquaSox fans will get to continue to see future Mariners here in Everett."
Among current Mariners who played in Everett are Félix Hernández, José López, Adam Moore, Doug Fister, Matt Tuiasosopo and Michael Saunders.
"Everett is a great fit for the Mariners," Seattle's director of minor-league operations, Pedro Grifol, said in a statement. "The AquaSox ownership has been great to work with, the players get a first-class environment and get to play in front of great fans."
