Suspect arrested in robbery outside Alderwood mall

Wednesday's robbery is only one of several that have happened recently in Snohomish County.

LYNNWOOD -- A 25-year-old Everett man was arrested Friday on suspicion of first-degree robbery.

Police believe he is the man they caught on surveillance camera footage shortly before a couple was robbed at knifepoint outside Alderwood mall Wednesday.

Tips from the public led to Stevens Hospital where the man had checked himself in for unknown reasons, police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said Friday.

The man left the hospital, reportedly still in scrubs, just ahead of detectives. When he caught a bus, they alerted Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies, who later found him in Everett.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old Everett man was jailed for another robbery after allegedly luring his friend into the woods Aug. 4 by promising to sell him marijuana.

The two went into the woods near the 3300 block of 184th Street SW in Lynnwood. A waiting group of young men reportedly beat and stabbed the friend several times before taking his money and skateboard. He was not seriously injured in the scuffle.

Meanwhile, detectives in Mill Creek were hunting another knife-wielding suspect.

On Thursday morning, a man robbed a store in the Thomas Lake shopping center in the 3400 block of 132nd Street SE. He threatened a store employee with a knife and demanded cash, Mill Creek police Detective Ian Durkee said Friday.

The man then rode away on a bicycle.

The robber appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing a mask, a black baseball cap, black sweatshirt and jeans. He is about 6-foot, 200 pounds.

"We are looking into other surveillance footage in the area," Durkee said.

This is the ninth robbery in about three months in Mill Creek, Durkee said. He urges shoppers and businesses owners to look out for suspicious activity.

People casing businesses will spend abnormal amounts of time watching businesses, walking or driving past them and hanging out outside.
