Sounders Update

Today's game

Opponent: CF Monterrey

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Qwest Field

TV: Fox Soccer Channel

Scouting report

Tonight's game is a Champions League contest. The Sounders are in Group C with Saprissa (Costa Rica), Marathon (Honduras) and Monterrey (Mexico).

Seattle lost its Group C opener last Thursday in Honduras, falling to Marathon, 2-1.

Monterrey won its group debut 1-0 on Aug. 17 over visiting Saprissa. Aldo De Negris scored the game's lone goal midway through the first half.

The top two teams from group play, which runs through late October, advance to the quarterfinals in February. The quarterfinals, semifinals and final are two-match series, with the winners determined by total aggregate goals.

The Sounders return to Major League Soccer action Saturday with a home game against the Chicago Fire. The contest marks the return of former Sounders forward Freddie Ljungberg, who was traded to the Fire in July.
