The new board of directors for the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce include John Bell of Willis Hall, chairman; David Chin of GoSmallBiz as past-chair; Al Aldrich of Strategies 360, chair elect; Michael Meeks of Dewar, Meeks & Ekrem, treasurer; Perry McConnell of Hansen, McConnell & Pellegrini, legal counsel; and Caldie Rogers, president/CEO.

Lynn Melby was recently appointed by the Lynnwood City Council to the Lynnwood Public Facilities District board of directors. With more than 35 years of association management experience, Melby is a consultant to various nonprofit organizations, corporations and government entities. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees, respectively, from the University of North Dakota and Seattle University. The Lynnwood Public Facilities District owns the Lynnwood Convention Center and contracts with SMG to manage the facility.

Janice Walter Vallin is the new publisher of the Marysville Globe and Arlington Times. She replaces DeAnna Emborski. Vallin was previously general manager of Community Impact in Austin, Texas.

Learning

Cascadia Community College in Bothell is enrolling unemployed workers for an energy-audit specialist certificate program that will begin Sept. 27 and run for two quarters. Funding is provided by a grant from the Washington Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board in partnership with, among others, Workforce Development Council Snohomish County. Eligible participants will have their tuition and fees covered by the grant; they will also receive support and assistance from WorkSource Snohomish County Employment Specialists. The energy-audit specialist certificate will prepare students to enter the field of residential, multifamily and commercial energy auditing. The program is intended for unemployed workers willing to commit to a full-time training program and engage in immediate job search activities afterward. Good deeds

First Heritage Bank will have a charity golf tournament Sept. 10 at the Snohomish Golf Course to benefit several local nonprofits. The bank hopes to make it an annual event. Registration begins at noon and the tournament begins at 1 p.m., with an awards dinner to follow. Cost is $100 per person or $400 per foursome, and sponsorship opportunities are available. Cascade Bank employees have collected more than 20 boxes of school supplies as well as hundreds of dollars in donations to benefit the YWCA of Snohomish and King and counties in its annual back-to-school drive for children in need. This is the sixth consecutive year Cascade has conducted a school supply drive to benefit YWCA.

Chamber events

Entrepreneur Sunny Kobe Cook will be the speaker at the Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce's September breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Staybridge Suites Hotel in Mukilteo. A Snohomish Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast is scheduled for Tuesday at the Snohomish Boys and Girls Club, 402 Second St. in Snohomish, Doors open at 7 a.m., and the event is 7:30 to 9. On the radio

Three guests are planned to appear on the next Getting Your Dough to Rise program with host Chuck Noel from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday on KSER radio, 90.7 FM. Forbes magazine columnist Ken Fisher will provide his view on the current state of investing and the economy, and Bill Smead, money manager at Smead Capital Management of Seattle, offers his opinions on the malaise in equity markets. Robert Krughoff, editor of Puget Sound Consumers' Checkbook, will discuss findings in the latest edition, including eyeglasses and contact lenses, heating and air-conditioning services, window installers and funeral homes.

Travel program

Jason Mesnick of "The Bachelor" television show joins AAA for Down Under Night, featuring information on traveling to New Zealand and Australia. Mesnick filmed several episodes of "The Bachelor" in New Zealand, and will have just returned from Australia. Awards

Moss Adams Wealth Advisors LLC was ranked as a top wealth-manager firm in Wealth Manager Magazine's 2010 annual survey. Moss Adams was specifically recognized as "rising above the crowd by its comprehensive integration of business and individual services." Moss Adams Wealth Advisors, which serves Everett, was among only seven Washington state-based firms that were ranked in the survey. In addition, Moss Adams Wealth Advisors was one of 10 firms selected from more than 300 to be individually profiled by Wealth Manager.

Chermak Construction Inc. of Edmonds was named as one of the top 500 remodeling firms in 2010 by Qualified Remodeler Magazine, an annual listing that recognizes remodeling businesses for annual sales volume, number of years in business, association membership, certified employees on staff, industry awards and community service. Chermak Construction, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, was ranked No. 172 on the list of 500 and received special recognition for association membership, certification and community service. The company has been awarded this honor for the past five years.
