New temporary police chief named in Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS - Sgt. Dennis Taylor of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office has been named interim police chief until the status of city Police Chief Tony Domish is resolved.

Domish has been on paid leave since April 23 while an investigation of his conduct was undertaken by the Sheriff's Office. The review was done at the request of Mayor Haroon Saleem. A five-binder report on the investigation was turned over to the city on Wednesday but has yet to be made public.

The City Council voted 3-0, with two absent, on Wednesday to appoint Taylor to the interim post. Granite Falls will pay $37,967 in salary and benefits for his services through the end of the year, and $75,933 from January through August 2011 if necessary, according to the agreement between the city and the Sheriff's Office.

Lt. Rick Hawkins of the Sheriff's Office served as interim police chief from April 23 through Tuesday.
