Help: Older adult volunteers needed
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for older adults to share their experience and skills with the community.
Sponsored by Catholic Community Services, the program matches people with dozens of volunteer opportunities throughout Snohomish County.
Volunteers get free car and accident insurance for the time they spend doing volunteer work.

Show up: Arlington drag and car show
Antique and classic cars, and unique and historic dragsters are expected to turn up next week for the seventh annual Arlington Drag Strip Reunion and Car Show.
The show is planned for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Arlington Ultra Light Airport, at 188th St. NE. Pre-registration is $20 and day of show registration is $25 to enter your vehicle. It's $3 to see the show.
Organizers teamed up with the Port Gardner Vintage Auto Club. The event benefits the Arlington Boys & Girls Club and other local charities.

Engage: Teach a class in Edmonds
If you ever thought of teaching a class or workshop, the Edmonds Senior Center might have just the job for you.
The center is looking for volunteers to teach workshops, classes and to do presentations. The center is at 220 Railroad Ave. near the waterfront in Edmonds. Instructors also are needed for the following clubs: writing and poetry, painting and book club.

Support: Veterans center hosts event
Whidbey Island Veterans Resource Center is planning a music fest and hot dog cookout to celebrate the opening of its new activities center in Freeland.
The event is noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the center, 1796 Main Street, next door to the Puget Sound Energy building in Freeland. Tours will be offered to the guests. There will be live music, raffle drawings, henna and face painting, and a few surprises. Guests are invited to bring a favorite side dish. The event is free, but $10 to $50 donations will be accepted with gratitude.
The Veterans Resource Center is a nonprofit organization working to heal the effects of war on veterans and their families. The center doesn't get government funding and relies on community donations. To make a donation, call Michelle McGowan at 360-969-5548.

The Everett Community College's Adult Literacy Center is seeking volunteers to help adults improve reading, writing, math and English skills.
Volunteers are asked to offer at least two hours per week. Training is free with a six-month commitment. Patience and sensitivity to different learning styles and cultural backgrounds are essential.
The Lions for Literacy program serves more than 500 people each year, helping Snohomish County adults gain the skills for college, technical certification programs and becoming U.S. citizens.
