5 injured in one-car crash near Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS -- An Arlington man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle this morning after losing control of the car he was driving on Robe Menzel Road near Granite Falls, officials said.

Four teen passengers from the Lake Stevens and Edmonds areas were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The driver, 22, lost control of the car and hit a pole and then a tree, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The impact of hitting the tree caused the car, a 1995 Mitsubishi GT, to catch fire.

The man was critically injured, and suffered burns, Hover said.

The crash was reported shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Robe Menzel Road. Fire department officials said Robe Menzel Road is a curvy rural road.

Sheriff's office collision detectives were at the accident scene this morning.

Granite Falls Fire District 17 was aided by fire districts 8 in Lake Stevens and 22 at Getchell.
