Holiday weekend weather looks cloudy, wet

SEATTLE -- The National Weather Service says Thursday's sunshine won't last into the Labor Day weekend in Washington.

Forecasters say clouds will move in from the coast by tonight, cooling the high temperatures in Western Washington into the 60s and into the 70s in Eastern Washington.

The Weather Service forecasts a chance of rain on Labor Day across the state and unsettled weather into next week.

On top of that, the state Transportation Department says if you wanted the best travel day for the Labor Day weekend in Washington you should already be gone by now.

The department says traffic builds after Thursday morning and may not clear out until Tuesday.

Typical weekend delays are on Highway 2, Interstate 90, and I-5 south of Olympia and at the Canadian border. Ferry terminals likely will have long waits.

Most highway construction is suspended for the weekend, including a major project on I-90 on the east side of Snoqualmie Pass.
