Tracking the Seahawks cut-day moves

NFL teams have until 3 p.m. (pacific time) to trim rosters to 53 players. And while the team won't announce anything until all the moves have been made this afternoon, I'll use this space to update news as it comes along.

--According to multiple reports, the Seahawks will release WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh today if they can't find a trade partner. That, of course, means Seattle will end up eating a good chunk of change. Houshmandzadeh is due $7 million in guaranteed money, meaning if Seattle can't trade him and cuts him, whatever team signs him can offer him the veteran minimum of $850,000 and let the Seahawks cover the rest.

--The Seahawks also reportedly reached an injury settlement with DE Nick Reed, who recently had knee surgery.

--ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this morning that the Seahawks will cut third QB J.P. Losman, which doesn't come as a huge surprise given how Losman played in his limited snaps during the preseason. I'd say it is more likely that the Seahawks will end up signing another quarterback than stick with just two. Patrick Ramsey, who was recently released by the Saints and earlier played in Denver under current Seahawks offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, is one possibility. And of course, should he be traded or released today, Matt Leinart's name will be connected with the Seahawks and Pete Carroll.

UPDATE 11:00 a.m.
According to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, the Seahawks have released Houshmandzadeh, meaning, not surprisingly, no trade partner was found. Again, the team won't announce this or any other move until later this afternoon, but all sign point to the T.J. Houshmandzadeh era in Seattle being over.
