You've got mail

It may seem very 1997, but Americans still struggle with accumulating mountains of e-mail. One way to cope is to create a separate e-mail account with a free service like Google or Yahoo for online shopping, which you would check once a month.

You also might consider another separate account to give only to annoying relatives and acquaintances who keep sending you chain e-mails. You would never check this account.

I, robot; you, unemployed: A California company is making robots for about $15,000 that can patrol warehouses at night and provide tech support during the day. Other robots could soon follow to do jobs where it's too costly or dangerous to send humans.

Being that this job is neither, we're not too concerned about being replaced. But if tomorrow's Buzz is written in binary 1's and 0's, you'll know what happened.

Don't know much about history: On this day in history in 1927, Philo Farnsworth succeeded in electronically transmitting an image using a device he called an "image dissector."

But Farnsworth shelved further work on his invention for decades when he inadvertently tuned in to an episode of "Jersey Shore," and feared for humanity.
