Ghost in the machine
A recent update in The Herald's content management system contains a glitch that sometimes inserts random character sequences into article text. In a story on local ice cream that appears today on Page D1, which is printed early in the morning, the glitch appears just after the words Häagen-Dazs. Perhaps our Danish-built software has something against made-up Scandinavian words?
Light it up: Get ready for the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival that runs this weekend.
A reception and opening art show is planned for Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Satybridge Ballroom, 9600 Harbour Place, Mukilteo. Meet the artists and enjoy beverages and hors d'oeurves.

Blue and Gray Game: The Evergreen Cemetery plans to host a Civil War ceremony and battle re-enactment beginning at noon Saturday at 4405 Broadway Ave., Everett. The Washington Civil War Association will first present exhibits and the battle is planned for 1 p.m.
A ceremony with musket and cannon salutes will follow at 2 p.m. at the Grand Army of the Republic Section near 41st and Broadway.
At 11:30 a.m., historian David Dilgard plans to lead a historical tour of the burial sites of famous and interesting people from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning at the cemetery office.
