Snohomish County women compete at Sweet Adelines International

Seattle is going to be one harmonic town next week when the Sweet Adelines International competition begins Oct. 19 at KeyArena.

Sweet Adelines is the worldwide organization that embraces female barbershop harmony.

Snohomish County has an a cappela group called Voices Northwest. Though that group didn't make it into the international competition, two women from VNW will be competing.

The two singers are Juanita Harwood and Sharon Marquardt, who will be competing as members of the Pacific Sound vocal group.

Also, Voice Northwest Director Sue Beck will be participating as the showmanship judge during the quartet competition.

The Sweet Adelines International attracts almost 7,000 a cappella vocalists from around the world belting out barbershop music.

The event's finale is at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 22 when thousands of singers will assemble for a mass performance at the KeyArena Plaza, 305 Harrison St., Seattle. The public is invited to this free event.

For more information, call 800-992-7464, 918-622-1444 or visit Sweet Adelines International Convention
