Everett couple dies after car crashes into rock wall

EVERETT — A couple was killed in Everett on Sunday night after their car crashed into a rock wall near Everett Community College.

The man, 78, and the woman, 80, were in a parking lot just before 6 p.m., officials said. Their car appears to have accelerated for several hundred feet before hitting a wall near the College Plaza shopping center on N Broadway.

The woman, who was in the passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. The man died en route to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Police believe the couple resided in Everett.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Tuesday. Police have yet to interview anyone who saw the crash, Goetz said Tuesday.

“We don’t know why this collision happened,” he said.
