Handy gadgets that any DIYer would love to find under the tree

When it comes to tools we are always in search of the latest and the greatest. As we’ve often said; “Experience aside, the right tool can make or break a project.”

Home-and-garden shows, building-industry trade shows, television shows, books, magazines, catalogs and the Internet are all excellent sources for such information.

Here are a few we found to be up-to-date, time-saving and something that any avid DIYer would love to find stuffed in their stocking:

Laser distance measurer: This is one of the new and useful tools born in the 21st century. It will literally render old-fashioned measuring tapes completely obsolete.

Anyone can now measure from point A to point B without any help at all. The “distance measurer” uses ultrasonic receptors (senses its own sound waves) to measure distances and volumes.

It’s fast, and it’s accurate. No more fiddling around with tapes or calculators. It costs about $40 at tinyurl.com/2wlbhtr.

The Busted Knuckle Garage Magnetic finger tool: It converts your finger to a powerful magnet, which can then be used for both assembly and retrieval of anything attracted to a magnet.

The one-finger glove is snug and flexible and is nylon and leather. There are sticky pads along the length of the glove as well.

At only $9.99 per finger, who could afford not to have one? Find it at tinyurl.com/287fqhx.

The Ultimate Survival Saw: It’s a 24-inch chain saw with handgrips, and it is rated at “one- to two-person-power.” It’s great for snowmobilers, campers, hikers, mountain bikers and outdoorsmen.

The survival saw comes with its own front-snap belt pouch. Priced at $29.95 at tinyurl.com/2vcrduo.

Grip Tite Super Wrench: The Grip Tite Super Wrench Set looks like a regular wrench set except that it won’t let go of the nut or bolt regardless of how many foot-pounds of force you exert.

In fact, the more turning pressure you apply, the tighter it grips that rusty or rounded bolt head.

This interesting tool is equally effective on normal nuts and bolts as well. Socket sets are also available. Choose from 10 differently configured sets from $24.99 to $99.99 at tinyurl.com/37no8oz.

If your significant other spends lots of time making repairs and upgrades to your home then consider maximizing productivity by providing your special someone with one or more of the three most popular power tools on the planet:

•A circular saw (7 1/4-inch diamond arbor Skil brand is best).

A reciprocating saw (we love the Milwaukee 18 volt).

A screwdriver-drill (our favorite is the mini DeWalt 18 volt).

Naturally, the brand makes a difference, but the battery operated models are far more convenient than their corded equivalents.
