A new 'full-fledged' post office opens today in South Everett

I've already written a few times about the closure of the Claremont Station at 5033 Claremont Way. Below is the latest information about the carrier annex turned into a "new" post office at 2201 100th St. SW near Paine Field from spokesman Ernie Swanson.

Before we get there, one correction. Earlier I had been told that there were no post office boxes at the carrier annex. There are a limited number of post office boxes available for rent, and when I drove by the other day, there was a huge banner proclaiming, "rent one today." However, Swanson told me that there's a waiting list for rental.

Now, onto the information from the postal service...

1. The Everett Carrier Annex has officially been re-named the Paine Field Station. With the addition of the retail facility it is now a "full-fledged" post office and no longer a carrier annex. Thus, the new name. It is about one-quarter mile from the entrance to Paine Field. Retail hours at the Paine Field Station will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday. It will not be open on Saturdays. It will have two full-service retail counters and an Automated Postal Center (APC). Passports applications will not be available at the Paine Field Station. Passport service is available at the Everett Main Post Office, 3102 Hoyt Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

2. The Claremont Station retail activity closed Friday. The retail at the Paine Field Station will open at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

3. The blue mail collection box at the Claremont Station will be removed later this month -- an exact date has not been set. To compensate, a walk-up collection box will be placed at the entrance to the Claremont Village QFC, 4919 Evergreen Way.
