MONROE — Bridgestone Tires has received initial approval from the City Council to become the next business to move into the North Kelsey Street area.
In a divided vote, the council approved the start of negotiations with the tire store for a one-acre lot at the southeast corner, just across the street from Lowe’s.
The proposed price for the lot is $775,000.
If approved, it will be the first Bridgestone store in the city. There are about nine Bridgestone stores in Snohomish County, including Everett, Mill Creek and Lynnwood.
The council vote was 4 -3. Council members Patsy Cudaback, Bridgette Tuttle and Tony Balk opposed starting talks, saying the business does not fit the city’s comprehensive plan for the area and they were concerned about noise.
The approval came moments after the council formally sold another lot just across N. Kelsey Street.
The council gave their approval for Mayor Robert Zimmerman to sign the development agreement which allows Walmart to built a store at the 24-acre site. The council approved the development agreement at its March 29 meeting.
