The Legislature's joint session

Last dance with Maryjane: Gov. Chris Gregoire, D-Buzz Kill, vetoed major portions of a medical marijuana law out of concern that provisions of the bill would have left some state workers at risk of arrest by federal authorities.

"I don't want to mislead anybody," said the governor, "but I have left what I could," which was the legislative equivalent of stems and seeds.

Roll over, Smokey: National wildfire experts expect a busy wildfire season in parched states such as Texas and Colorado but foresee a low risk for forest fires in the Northwest because of a spring that was wetter and cooler than usual.

The rain has been so persistent this spring, the U.S. Forest Service has introduced a new mascot, Squishy the Bear, whose motto for Northwest forests is "Only you can prevent mold and mildew."

We are not satiated: Cameras weren't enough to cover Friday's royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. A media outlet asked a professional lip reader to take down the candid conversations among the royals. Transcripts revealed little more than mundane exchanges.

Of course, the British press is just getting started. Coming soon: electronic monitoring of the honeymoon, a Wikileaks exclusive on Kate's first ultrasound and a blow-by-blow Twitter feed of the couple's first fight.
