Roll over, Smokey: National wildfire experts expect a busy wildfire season in parched states such as Texas and Colorado but foresee a low risk for forest fires in the Northwest because of a spring that was wetter and cooler than usual.
The rain has been so persistent this spring, the U.S. Forest Service has introduced a new mascot, Squishy the Bear, whose motto for Northwest forests is “Only you can prevent mold and mildew.”
