Merchants split with Kamloops

KAMLOOPS, B.C. -- Geoff Brown allowed one run on three hits in 61/3 innings as the Everett Merchants defeated the Kamloops Sun Devils 4-1 Sunday in the second game of a Pacific International League baseball doubleheader.

Kamloops beat the Merchants 2-1 in the first game of the twinbill.

Brown (University of Washington) struck out seven and walked four. He left the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh and the bases loaded. Reliever Andrew Groves (Bellevue College) struck out the next two batters to earn the save.

Sam Parris (Edmonds Community College) and Ryan Sells (Everett Community College) hit RBI singles in the first inning for the Merchants (9-2, PIL, 9-3 overall).

In the first game, Kamloops Alex Reid pitched a seven-hitter, striking out four and walking two. Will Devick hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in the game-winning run for Kamloops (8-5, 13-5).
