The 2-mile-long sandbar is a perfect place for a summer picnic, to splash in the shallow water or just soak up sunshine.
Each summer, Everett officials operate a small ferry between the 10th Street Boat Launch and the island. The trip takes only a couple of minutes.
Everett residents and groups of 12 or more can make reservations, or just show up at the 10th Street boat launch and grab a free pass.
Arrive at the sandbar and pick up a pass for the return trip.
While there's no overnight camping, there are plenty of things to do on Jetty Island.
Friday's opening celebrations include pirate demonstrations and a search for buried treasure.
Late-night camp fire programs and special cruises are scheduled through the summer.
Puppet shows are planned for 2:15 p.m. Mondays and crafts programs for kids are scheduled at 2 p.m. Sundays.
Several other fun events, including day camps, are planned. Go to Everett's website, tinyurl.com/JettyIsleDays, for a complete schedule.
Remember that no pets, alcohol or glass bottles are allowed. Pack out all your garbage and build campfires only in designated spots. There's no lifeguard on duty.
Jetty Island Days continue through Sept. 5, weather dependent.
The ferry runs Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 5:50 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 8:50 p.m.; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6:50 p.m.
