The Washington State Dairy Women selected Shannon Rodeffer of Snohomish County as the 2011-2012 Dairy Ambassador during a coronation ceremony held June 24 in Lynnwood. Emily Neff of Marysville and Laurel Bareman of Lynden were named alternates. As a representative of the Dairy Farmers of Washington, Rodeffer will visit schools, attend county fairs, appear at Washington Interscholastic Activities Association events and speak before the Legislature promoting the health and nutrition benefits of dairy products. A dairy ambassador typically makes 400 public appearances during her year-long tenure. Rodeffer also will receive a $7,000 scholarship to continue her education.
Landau Associates has hired new staff members. Brandon Duncan joined the Edmonds environmental group as a staff environmental engineer. Duncan received an M.S. in environmental engineering from Rice University. Allan Barton also joined the Edmonds office as a GIS technician. He has five years of experience working as a GIS technician and GIS analyst. Landau Associates is a geotechnical and environmental engineering and natural resource consulting firm with offices in Edmonds, Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, West Richland and Portland.
Jim Kellett, an Everett financial advisor for Edward Jones, recently met with lawmakers in Washington, D.C., urging legislation to increase savings and enhance retirement security. Kellett was one of 52 financial advisors chosen from among the firm's nearly 12,000 who traveled to Washington, D.C., to lobby on behalf of individual investors. "We appreciate the opportunity to communicate the concerns of individual investors, especially those here in Everett, and make sure they are heard on Capitol Hill," Kellett said.
Everett family law attorney Michele M. O'Loane of The Law Office of Michele M. O'Loane has been named by Washington Super Lawyers & Rising Stars as one of the top up-and-coming attorneys in the state for 2011. Global Spectrum, the management company for the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center, has named Sarah Eskenazi as director of catering. Eskenazi fills a new role designed to enhance service for Conference Center clients. Eskenazi has an extensive history in the food and beverage industry, including catering and management roles at Ray's Boathouse, Rosario Resort and Spa, Panera Bread and the Seattle Art Museum. Her principal role at the conference center will include coordination of all catered functions.

Safeco Insurance Foundation has expanded its annual homelessness initiative, committing $430,000 to provide basic and emergency services in communities throughout Washington and Oregon. The foundation awarded $15,000 to the Interfaith Association of Northwest Washington in Everett, one of 32 grant recipients. The Everett organization focuses on ending homelessness through housing and comprehensive programs while increasing united action among faith groups.
Clothes for Kids, a nonprofit serving families in Snohomish County, is expanding and seeking volunteers to serve on committees. These committees work closely with the Clothes for Kids Board of Directors and staff to help fulfill the mission of the organization. Clothes for Kids is at 16725 52nd Avenue West, Suite B, Lynnwood.
