Pups can dress up in their Sunday best for the new fashion show event at Poochapalooza on Saturday.

After five years, you might think you know what's in store at the annual Poochapalooza happening Saturday in Marysville, with its crazy dog contests, disc throwing tournament and doggie agility course.

But this year two new events have been added to Poochapalooza -- this "country fair for dogs" -- that will help to fetch your attention.

There's a fashion show -- woof, woof -- and a pie-eating contest.

Anyone ready for a slice of kibbles and cream?

The "Poochapalooza Fashions & Rescues Runway Show" will feature "adoptable models" or dogs ready for adoption from five rescue groups, all of whom will be modeling clothes from four designers.

The eye-catching fashions are from Seattle-based high fashion doggie wear designer Danita Nickles of Dmarie's Boutique and Amore Grace, with a new line of doggy tutus, said Leslie Buell, president of Marysville Dog Owners Group, or M-DOG.

While models strut down the dogwalk, they will be filmed for a new reality TV show by High Maintenance Bitch and TripleOne Haverly Productions. The T-shaped walkway will be festooned with balloons shaped like fire hydrants and a dog, Buell said.

Also new this year, visitors will watch as dogs with hearty appetites woof down pie during the Pooch Pie Eating Contests.

Hosted by Dining Dog Cafe and Bakery, the contests begin at 2:45 p.m. and top finishers receive blue ribbons.

In addition to these new events, Poochapalooza is bringing back 50 free microchips and $5 nail clipping for visitors, a doggy fortune teller, a doggy kissing booth, the Emerald City K-9 Freestyle Dancers, canine good citizen testing, with Hyperflite Skyhoundz Disc Dog tournaments and the Seattle Flydogs.

There's also a scavenger hunt in the off-leash dog park where 100 tennis balls will be hidden. If your dog finds one, he or she gets a coupon from Jones & Co Pets.

Poochapalooza also hosts 40 vendors and several "Best in Show" contests, including best costume, highest jumper, wackiest pet trick and cutest ugly dog.

Poochapalooza is M-DOG's major fundraiser and proceeds go toward M-DOG's off-leash dog park, Strawberry Fields for Rover, Buell said.

M-DOG's fifth annual Poochapalooza is from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the new Strawberry Fields for Rover, 6100 152nd St. NE, Marysville. Admission is free though the suggested donation of $5 will get a "wag bag" or Poochapalooza bandanna.
