It's summertime and sometimes you just have to pick and choose among the many fairs, festivals and other family fun events going on throughout Snohomish County.
Here are a couple of suggestions for this weekend:
The Mill Creek Festival and Street Fair takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on Mill Creek Boulevard, just north of 164th St. SE. Admission is free. For more information, go to www.millcreekfestival.com.
The festival and street fair has main stage entertainment, artisan and commercial booths, a food court, a beer garden and a car show.
For the kids, there's face painting, bouncy toys and a close look at fire trucks. And bring your pooch along -- on a leash -- to the popular Pet Plaza.
Since moving last year to Mill Creek Boulevard, the festival is now able to host local car club the Seattle Rod-Tiques who will tour their car show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
This year's main stage lineup brings back crowd favorite The Machine and Creme Tangerine, along with local singer and songwriter Kelle Bradley and her band, The Edsels, Rhythm Nation, the Dana Osborne Band, Superfekta and Bullet Creek.
"We spend a lot of festival dollars bringing really great acts," said Theresa Poalucci, president of the Mill Creek Business Association, which produces the festival. "I especially enjoy seeing people dancing with their dogs"
The Frogtastic Kids' Fair is new this year as part of Snohomish's summertime festival, Kla Ha Ya Days.
The Frogtastic Kids' Fair is from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Snohomish Station Village, 2811 Bickford Ave. All activities are free.
Whether you are raucous or quiet, there's something for everyone at Frogtastic Fair, starting with building your own wooden block car and racing it in a derby.
The Pinewood Derby, a Boy Scouts of America sanctioned event, is open to all ages from 5 to 18 years. Home Depot will conduct free clinics to help racers cut out, finish and assemble their cars.
Besides derby races, families can look for treasure or take part in a water ball competition with local firefighters. You can also watch the dachshund wiener dog races, the baby crawl or the kids fashion show.
Entertainment on the main stage runs all day and includes karaoke, American Indian dances and puppets.
The Bike Rodeo runs from 3 to 6 p.m. with a helmet give-away while supplies last and check out the Mascot Bed Race Rally.
"The Great Bed Race brings a feeling of team spirit among members of the community," said Jim Garcia, president of Kla Ha Ya Days Festival.
If you are a basketball fan, 6:30 p.m. marks the time when Snohomish awards the key to the city to Jon Brockman, former Snohomish High School basketball star and now NBA player for the Milwaukee Bucks.
There are lots of other events connected to Kla Ha Ya Days. For a full schedule go to www.KlaHaYaDays.com.
Red Rooster Route Days at Biringer Farm is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Biringer Farm, 21524 59th Ave. NE, Arlington. For more information call 360-435-3353 or go to www.biringerfarm.com. Admission is free.
This year's theme is "It's a Cock-a-doo-dle-doo – Hoe-down on the farm!"
The hoe-down includes a chicken dance, pony and strawberry rides, a giant strawberry and castle maze inflatables, kiddie slides, pennies in the hay, pig butt bowling and interactive story time.
Don't forget the trolley rides to acres of U-pick raspberries. Bring a lunch and picnic on the old covered wagon next to the historic barn.
