Business group to discuss retail theft
A Mukilteo crime prevention officer will give tips on preventing crime, including fraud and employee theft.
MUKILTEO -- Retail theft doesn't just hurt business owners, said Cheol Kang, a Mukilteo crime prevention officer.
Retail theft drives up consumer prices, he said. It affects people more than they know.
That kind of crime is the topic at an upcoming quarterly Snohomish County Business Watch presentation.
The young organization aims to provide businesses with information about crime prevention and networking opportunities, Kang said. It covers topics such as fraud, vehicle theft and employee theft.
"It goes well beyond simple things like shoplifting," he said.
The presentations are moved around the county, and this is Mukilteo's turn to host, he said.
The presentation is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Staybridge Suites ballroom.
Everyone is welcome to attend, Kang said. Admission is $5 and includes lunch.
The main presenter is from the Washington State Fusion Center, an anti-crime group.
The point of the meetings is for people to learn from each other about crime prevention, especially in the business community, Kang said.
The more people know, the harder they are to victimize, he said. The presentations are geared toward explaining how certain crimes and related topics affect business owners.
"What one person has seen or experienced, you can learn from that and be prepared," Kang said.
