Facebook popular, but not satisfying

Facebook ranks low among social media websites when it comes to consumer satisfaction, but remains the dominant platform for the majority of users, according to a new report by the American Customer Satisfaction Index and ForeSee Results. The ASCI, founded at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, draws on interviews with about 70,000 consumers annually to measure satisfaction with more than 225 companies in 47 industries. The index, released on Tuesday, focuses on e-business, which ForeSee Results divided into three categories: social media websites, search engines and portals, and news websites. Sixteen websites were evaluated, including Facebook, Wikipedia, Google and CNN.

FDA says it plans to regulate medical apps

The Food and Drug Administration is taking the first steps toward regulating the rapidly expanding field of medical applications, or apps, for smart phones and other handheld devices. With the rise of the iPhone, Android and other mobile devices has come a flood of applications designed to help people stay healthy. Industry analysts estimate there are already more than 17,000 medical applications available, ranging from calorie counters to programs that let doctors view medical scans on their phones. The FDA says it will begin regulating a handful of these programs that pose the greatest risk if they don't work appropriately.

Chrysler suspends nine without pay

Chrysler Group LLC said Tuesday it has suspended nine workers without pay after a Detroit television station aired footage of them allegedly drinking and smoking marijuana before their shifts at an area plant. WJBK-TV aired the story about the workers at the Trenton Engine Plant last week. The station said it was tipped off by other workers at the plant. The plant employs around 500 people who make V-6 engines for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Grand Caravan and other vehicles. Chrysler said it identified the workers using the station's video. All nine have been suspended without pay while the company investigates.

More Leafs in 2012 but price rises $2,500

Nissan Motor Co. will more than double the number of states where it offers its Leaf electric car by this fall. But buyers will have to pay more to get it. The base price of the 2012 model-year Leaf will be $35,200, up nearly $2,500 from the 2011 model year. Drivers can also lease the Leaf for $369 per month, up $20. The 2012 Leaf goes on sale this fall. Buyers will still be eligible for a $7,500 tax credit, which will lower the starting price to $27,700. Nissan spokeswoman Katherine Zachary said the price is going up because Nissan is adding some standard features, including a battery warmer, heated steering wheel and front and rear heated seats. Those features weren't needed because Nissan only sold the car in six warm states.
