Okung making progress, Red Bryant looking good, and other notes from the final day of training camp

Thursday marked the end of training camp for the Seahawks, though that distinction is a lot less significant now that the team holds camp at its practice facility and not in Cheney, Wash. The players still get excited about this day, however, because it means they can leave hotel life behind and return to their homes. For the coaches, however, it is reminder that the regular season is getting closer by the day.

"This happened way too fast," Pete Carroll said. ". . . We feel rushed, we do feel rushed."

A good sign for the Seahawks was the presence of left tackle Russell Okung on the practice field, taking place in some of the day's individual drills. It was clear watching Okung, who sprained his ankle in last week's preseason game, that he is still not at full speed, but the fact that he was doing anything at all is a very positive sign for the Seahawks.

Carroll said Okung is "a week away, two weeks away at most."

Okung added, "It's coming along a lot faster than I though it would."

Another positive sight for the Seahawks was that of DE Red Bryant going at full speed. On one play, he busted into the backfield for a "sack" giving QB Josh Portis a solid slap on the shoulders. Later in practice, Bryant chased down TE Domique Bird all the way at the sideline and took Bird down with a game-speed tackle. Bryant has been limited in most of training camp as he eases back from the knee injury that took him out last season, but Carroll said that on that play, "We realized Red is officially back."

WR Ben Obomanu had an impressive practice, catching one long touchdown pass from Tarvaris Jackson, and later making a nice one-handed grab across the middle. Obomanu, who had shoulder surgery in the offseason, will sit out Saturday's preseason game, Carroll said. Rookie receiver Kris Durham, who injured his hamstring last week and missed the first preseason game, will play.
