Are you going to Evergreen fair? Purple cows, rosemary and thyme

What? No deep-fried butter? The Evergreen State Fair opens today in Monroe with a huge new building for 4-H kids to show off their critters and all your favorite events, like the demolition derby, and food, including the ever-popular Purple Cow, although the booth location for the ice cream confection has moved.

To find the Purple Cow booth, just follow the steam of fair-goers with ice cream headaches back to its source.

"You just bought yourself another Saturday in detention": Tempers among members of the Everett School Board flared Monday night as one board member questioned the legality of a closed executive meeting and attempted to record it on video, ending with a scuffle and complaints to police. The board is scheduled to meet today to try and smooth over the internal conflicts.

Failing that each member will be given his or her own vehicle and will be entered in the demolition derby at the Evergreen State Fair.

Do you want fries with that? Burger King is the latest fast-food chain to offer healthier menu choices, selling oatmeal for breakfast.

Likewise, you can also get oatmeal at the Evergreen State Fair. Your choice: in a cup, or deep-fried and on a stick.
