Catch Cheap Trick and much more at the fair
Mommy's all right and daddy's all right. The whole family's all right because the Evergreen State Fair is open and featuring the headliner act, Cheap Trick.
So along with their smash hit "Surrender," Cheap Trick -- called the American Beatles by the Japanese press -- will entertain with "I Want You To Want Me," "Dream Police" "On Top Of The World" and "How Are You."
Cheap Trick plays at 7 p.m. Aug. 31. The Evergreen State Fair runs through Sept. 5.
Those Cheap Trick tunes make great nostalgia music for mom and dad, but what about the rest of the family?
No worries. Besides Cheap Trick and music by rocksters OneRepublic and the country group, The Band Perry, there will be lots of metal-to-metal action at the grandstand with the Monster Truck Crush Contest, Mr. Dizzy's Crash Factory and the Demo Derby.
Other talent can be enjoyed at the Xfinity Courtyard Stage where performers entertain from morning till night.
Pop in and you might catch The Reptile Man, comedy-juggler Matt Baker or clown icon J.P. Patches. You can enter a bubble-gum blowing or pie-eating contest. Or you can dance to Elvis, Neil Diamond or Bob Dylan, at least the tribute bands anyway.
Daily fair events include the popular All-Alaskan Pig Races, the lumberjack show and the Aztec Indian Dancers. And of course the fair animals, from pygmy goats to poultry, are on display every day.
Butler Amusements provides carnival fun at the fair with the Wacky Worm or the classic Carousel for little riders and the Thunderbolt and Cliff Hanger among the choices for older thrill seekers.
For three days at the fair -- Sept. 2 to 4 -- the Pro West Rodeo show gives visitors a glimpse of what it's like to be a cowboy with bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding and steer wrestling.
Every day of the fair has a theme and be sure to mark Sept. 1 because that's Kids Day, when youth 15 and under get in free.
The Evergreen State Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through Sept. 4 and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe.
Admission is $10 general, $7 for seniors ages 62 to 89 and for children age 6 to 15; and free for seniors 90 and older and kids 5 and under.
Some events such as concerts, car races, the rodeo and the carnival have additional admission.
Parking is $8 to $10.
