AquaSox notebook
Today's game
Opponent: Yakima Bears
When: 7:05 p.m.
Where: Everett Memorial Stadium
Radio: KRKO 1380
Starting pitchers: Yakima LHP Adam Kudryk (3-4, 3.42 earned-run average) vs. Everett LHP Bennett Whitmore (4-5, 5.17)
The Court's in session
Jose Campos of the Everett AquaSox shares a number of similarities with Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez. Both are from Venezuela. Both are right-handed. Both displayed talent beyond their years as teenagers pitching for the Everett AquaSox.
Now they both have their own rooting sections.
The AquaSox introduced "Campos Court" for the 19-year-old's final home start of the regular season Thursday night. The special section, modeled after the wildly popular "King's Court" promotion for Hernandez's appearances at Safeco Field, drew several dozens fans.
Each person in the section just beyond first base received a "K" placard, which they were to raise whenever Campos got two strikes on a batter. The group got off to an uninspired start, demonstrating neither the enthusiasm nor the coordination of their counterparts in Seattle. Only a handful of placards went up as Campos struck out three of the first five batters he faced.
But the court got the hang of things late in the second inning, raising their placards in unison and chanting "K! K! K!" as Campos struck out Kerry Jenkins looking to end the inning.
