OAK HARBOR — The search for a missing sailor ended tragically Friday when his body was found at the site of a motorcycle crash.
Nikolas Ngo, 21, was found dead about 5 p.m. near the intersection of Yates and Heller roads north of Oak Harbor, Washington State Patrol trooper Keith Leary said. The Kawasaki motorcycle he was riding eastbound on Yates Road went off the roadway, crashing through a wooden fence and some trees.
Ngo was stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
He was last heard from Wednesday afternoon, when he told his girlfriend he was going to visit her in Lake Stevens. He never made it.
State troopers, friends and coworkers searched for him around the island and in Snohomish County, Leary said.
People who came to visit a relative living near Oak Harbor discovered Ngo’s body Friday.
“They saw that the fence had been knocked down,” Leary said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
