Edmonds train station gets Community Transit platform
EDMONDS -- A new bus platform near the remodeled Edmonds train station is nearly finished and is scheduled to be ready for use beginning Monday.
The platform is located at the north end of the parking lot for the train station, across Railroad Avenue from the ferry dock.
Community Transit will send routes 110 and 116, which currently run on Railroad Avenue past the Edmonds Senior Center, to serve the new platform. Routes 131 and 416 will continue to run on Railroad Avenue.
The new platform includes two large shelters and is intended to help passengers make quicker transfers between buses and Sounder commuter rail and Amtrak trains.
It also allows Community Transit buses to avoid the railroad crossing near the Edmonds waterfront. Delays occur at that location when buses have to wait for passing trains.
The platform and shelters were part of Sound Transit's nearly $13 million makeover of Edmonds Station, which serves riders for both Sounder and Amtrak. The train station remodel, completed in July, included longer boarding platforms, better lighting and repaved parking lots.
