New ramp to 196th Street SW won't open until Sunday

The opening of a new off-ramp from southbound I-5 to 196th Street SW in Lynnwood, originally planned for Friday morning, has been delayed until 5 a.m. Sunday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Wet weather earlier in the week pushed paving back a day, and that had a domino effect on other work, said Bronlea Mishler, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
This week, drivers exiting onto 196th Street SW have been using a temporary configuration until the new ramp is completed. When it’s open, southbound drivers headed to 196th will enter a new tunnel at the interchange with I-405 that will put them onto a two-lane exit ramp.
That ramp and other new on-ramps from Highway 525 and I-405 to southbound I-5 and 196th are designed to reduce the need for weaving between exiting and merging drivers. The on-ramps opened on schedule on Monday.
The $33.7 million project was begun in August 2010.
