MARYSVILLE — Two teams took to the gridiron Friday night, with singular aspirations — securing its first win of the season.
Lynnwood finally found a night to celebrate as it beat Marysville Getchell 44-8 for its first win of the season.
“Getting that first victory was really big for us,” Lynnwood head coach Mike Don said. “We came out and ran the ball well. The punt return was kind of a spark for us and our defense played really well.”
Royals senior running back Corey Hoerner rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 45 yards and another score. Lynnwood QB Blake Lord finished 10-for-18 for 130 yards a touchdown. MG finished with 173 total yards of offense and 2 turnovers.
They did, holding the Chargers to just 40 yards of total offense and one first down, which came courtesy a penalty, for the entire first half.
According to coach Don, the game plan focused on forcing Marysville Getchell to throw the ball through press man coverage and the Chargers weren’t able to do so.
It all added up to the Royals first win of the year.
“It’s exciting and hopefully we can carry this on for the rest of the year,” Don said.
