Lake Stevens firefighters plan to distribute smoke alarm batteries Friday at Haggen, 8915 Market Place NE, and Jay's Market, 1809 124th NE.
They plan to be there from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. to remind people to change their clocks for daylight saving time.
People also will be reminded to check the batteries in their smoke alarms, said Alison Caton, a public educator with Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens. Smoke-alarm batteries generally should be changed every six months. Batteries with longer life spans should be tested monthly.
The official time to change your clock is 2 a.m. Sunday, Caton said.
Bothell: City may form fire authority
Bothell city leaders have asked to join the talks about forming a regional fire authority in south Snohomish County.
The nine cities and fire districts now involved will consider the request at a meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesdayat Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave. W.
The cities and fire districts have been talking about consolidating fire services in the area for months. The planning process for a regional fire authority could take up to two years to get on the ballot.
A regional fire authority is a government body that runs fire services for multiple jurisdictions.
The agencies involved are Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Woodway and Snohomish County Fire Districts 1 and 7.

Bothell meeting to discuss annexation
The city is hosting a Wednesday night meeting to answer questions about the annexation measure on this fall's ballot. It's scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at Northlake Christian Church, 19029 North Road.
The proposed annexation would give Bothell about 22,000 new residents and 5.6 square miles of land from unincorporated Snohomish County.
County tax data show that property taxes would drop for homeowners, though new utility taxes from the city would offset that somewhat.
Fire and EMS services have been a point of contention. Much of the potential annexation area already is served by Bothell firefighters under contract with Snohomish County Fire District 10. Commissioners for Fire District 1, on the west side of the annexation area, have passed a resolution against the annexation.
