Honoring heroes
Express appreciation to members of the military, veterans and to their families Friday at Everett Mall.
Design and write a holiday card and the American Red Cross-Snohomish County Chapter will make sure it gets safely delivered. Cards collected on Nov. 11 will be distributed during the holidays to veterans, active duty military members as well as their families.
"Holiday Mail for Heroes" is planned for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Frontier Communications in the Everett Mall.
Writing tools and arts and crafts supplies for making cards will be provided.

Expect holiday closures: Friday is Veterans Day. Here are some resulting closures:
Government: Federal, state and local offices are closed.
Schools: Closed.
Post offices: Closed, although Express Mail service continues.
Commerce: Most banks are closed.
Transportation: Everett Transit, Community Transit and Washington State Ferries are on regular schedules.

Calendar sold for Historic Everett: Historic Everett's 2012 calendar is available at J. Matheson Gifts, 2615 Colby Ave. and at Peak Performance, 2902 Rucker Ave., both in Everett.
Featured buildings include the Civic Auditorium, Central Building, Medical & Dental Building, and both North and South Junior High Schools.
