Creamed spinach? Never had a chance. Elk? No match for turkey. And hush puppies were silenced by a torrent of gravy. Round One of the Thanksgiving Food Fight is over and with it all of the cupcake matchups -- heck, even the cupcakes themselves. In Round 2 the serious battles begin, and there are some juicy ones. Traditional roast turkey will have to contend with turducken and its three-birds-in-one appeal. Prime rib roast and deep-fried turkey face off in a blood-thickening battle royale, and pumpkin pie could face a real challenge in a delicious matchup with cheesecake. If you're looking for a Cinderella in this big dance, roast beef and Brussels sprouts were the biggest upset winners in Round 1, but it's hard to imagine the glass slipper fitting a slab of beef, isn't it? How it works: HeraldNet polls decide which dishes advance in each round and which get fed to the dog. The voting schedule: • Round 1, Nov. 8-10; • Round 2, Nov. 11-14; • Round 3 (Sweet 16), Nov. 15-16; • Round 4 (Edible 8), Nov. 17-18; • Final Four, Nov. 19-21; • Championship, Nov. 22-23. See the updated tournament bracket here, or, for your office pool, here's a handy printable bracket.
