Arlington: Learn about schools
Arlington Public Schools plans to host Know Your Schools, an event for people who live in the school district, from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center.
The event begins with a free lunch with Superintendent Kristine McDuffy.
After lunch, a tour of several schools is planned. McDuffy said she wants community members to see firsthand some of the successes, challenges and opportunities the school district has.

Help your kids learn to love science
Arlington Library offers a Science Curriculum Night for parents at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 135 N. Washington Ave.
If you want your kids to be mad about science, library staff will help you explore resources that parents can use to help children discover their inner scientist.

Camano Island: Cookoff Saturday
The 16th annual Camano Island Chamber of Commerce Chowder and Chili Cookoff is set for 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Camano Community and Senior Center, 606 Arrowhead Road.
In 2010, more than 1,500 people attended the event and tasted more than 7,750 samples of soup and chili.
Musical entertainment is planned, along with a raffle and a live auction of contributions by more than 25 local artists.

Marysville: Resume writing workshop
The Marysville Goodwill Job Training and Education Center plans to host a free resume writing workshop.
The class, scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, will offer instruction on how to write and format a resume created in Microsoft Word.

Stanwood: Get pet photos with Santa
The Camano Animal Shelter Association is sponsoring its annual Pictures with Santa event Saturday.
Families can bring their pets to the Skagit Farmers Country Store between 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. to have a picture taken.
The photographs cost $20 for one CD with four different pictures. Skagit Farmers Country Store is located at 8815 271st St. NW in Stanwood.
