The Carl Gipson Senior Center in Everett needs a new kiln, after a fire destroyed the old one earlier this month.
Nearly 30 seniors participate in the ceramics program, said director Debra Loughrey-Johnson. It’s an important creative outlet. In a few cases, it’s a lifesaver, she said. One woman who is blind uses the opportunity to keep her hands agile.
“It’s not a moneymaker, but it’s one thing some of these people totally enjoy,” she said.
The ceramics room still stinks like burnt plastic and will need some fresh paint. The senior center is hoping someone in the community will step forward to replace the kiln.
“If anybody has any resources, it’s not in our budget,” she said.
