Colton Harris-Moore federal court sentencing set for Jan. 27
SEATTLE -- The Barefoot Bandit is expected to learn on Jan. 27 how long he'll spend in prison.
Colton Harris-Moore, 20, now is scheduled to be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Seattle. The notorious serial burglar from Camano Island is expected to face more than a decade behind bars.
He's already pleaded guilty in federal court to a multi-state crime spree. He evaded arrest for more than two years and stole planes, boats and cars while breaking into homes and businesses from Washington to Indiana.
Harris-Moore is scheduled to answer more than 30 state charges on Dec. 16 in Island County Superior Court in Coupeville. He is expected to enter guilty pleas and be sentenced in a series of hearings that day, officials said.
How long Harris-Moore, who earned an international reputation for running barefoot from his crimes, will spend behind bars ultimately will be decided by Judge Richard A. Jones on Jan. 27.
Jones, a federal judge, will consider the state sentence imposed in Coupeville and recommendations from prosecutors and Harris-Moore's defense team.
Officials close to the plea negotiation expect Harris-Moore to spend more than a decade behind bars.
He's already spent more than a year locked up at the Federal Detention Center in Sea-Tac.
Harris-Moore was arrested in the Bahamas on July 11, 2010. He escaped from a halfway house in Renton in April 2008 where he was serving time for burglaries and thefts near the house where he grew up on Camano Island.
