Prep girls basketball: Shorecrest 59, Arlington 45

ARLINGTON -- The good news for first-year Arlington coach Joe Marsh is that this game doesn't count in the Wesco North Standings.

After hanging with the highly regarded Scots for the first half, Brianne Lasconia took over and helped put the Eagles away 59-45 in this nonleague game.

"I think she was the difference," Marsh said of the Scots guard who scored 12 of her game-high tying 15 points after halftime.

Arlington's Lindsay Brown (12 points, seven rebounds) kept the Eagles in it early and they went into the locker room at half down just 29-28, but Shorecrest's defense shut the Eagles down in the second half.

"I just think they came out in the third quarter and defensively they exposed us in the second half," Marsh said.

Onyie Chibuogwu had 15 points and India Matheson added 13 points for Shorecrest, which got to the free-throw line to put the game away. Shorecrest shot 18-of-31 from the line and got three Eagles including Brown to foul out.

"They are a solid team they have three really good players," Marsh said. "They played to their strengths well."

It was a missed opportunity for Arlington to stay undefeated before Wesco 4A play begins later this week.

"We played hard I just don't think we played our best game." Marsh said. "We kind of beat ourselves a little bit. The fouls really hurts us."
