Baylor QB Griffin was a Cougar fan

Maybe with a twist of fate or two, the Washington State University football team wouldn't have needed Mike Leach.
Maybe the Cougars' only concern this week would be what color socks their quarterback would be wearing for Saturday's Heisman Trophy celebration.
As preposterous as it may sound, WSU was close to having one of the greatest players in college football.
Baylor star quarterback Robert Griffin III, who is one of five Heisman Trophy finalists who will be in attendance for the Saturday presentation, said Tuesday that the Cougars were among the schools he seriously considered when coming out of high school.
Before Griffin became a high school football star in Texas, he spent some time in Olympia while his parents were in the military. He said during a Tuesday conference call that he gained an affinity for the Cougars while living in the Washington state capital.
"When I was growing up, Washington State was a pretty good football program," he said. "There was a thought that maybe I could go back to Washington (for college) and see what happens. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way, and I took them off my list of schools to go to."
Griffin eventually chose the University of Houston but followed coach Art Briles to Baylor before his junior season.
