WENATCHEE -- A Chelan County sheriff's officer says a 3-year-old Wenatchee, Wash., boy shot himself in the leg with a .357-caliber handgun he found in the master bedroom of his home.
Sgt. Jerry Moore said the child was taken Friday morning to Central Washington Hospital. He was later reported in stable condition.
Moore said the bullet entered and exited the boy's lower left leg, went through a wall and lodged in a closet wall. The boy had been playing with the gun on the floor.
The officer told the Wenatchee World that the boy's mother got the gun out of a safe Thursday night because she heard noises outside. The holstered gun was then left in a nightstand drawer.
