Battle at the Border

At Blaine H.S.

BLAINE -- Jessie Lopez earned a close 2-0 victory at 138-pounds over Mt. Vernon's Pavel Okara, to help lead the Everett Seagulls to a ninth place finish at the Battle at the Border wrestling tournament in Blaine, Wash.

The Seagulls (114 points) other individual champioinship came from Connor Boyce, who was victorious in the 170-pound weight class, while fellow Seagull Zack Skorka finished fourth.

At 145-pounds Zane Crook got a last second reversal to defeat Woodland's Caleb Kaiser 7-6 and take fifth place. Kaiser had won a 10-4 decision over Crook the day before.

Mt. Baker (245 points) won the team title, with Todd Beamer (242) taking second place and Kentwood (171) finishing third.

Team scores: Mt. Baker 245, Todd Beamer 242, Kentwood 171, Mt Vernon 157, Blaine 150, Blackhills 137.5, Sehome 127, Ferndale 122.5, Everett 114, Issaquah 90.5.
