Index fire chief to stay on

The fire chief in Index won't change after all.

This summer, Chief Michael Fitzgerald put in his six-month resignation notice. Fitzgerald also works full-time as a fire captain and fire marshal in Monroe.

After Wednesday night's meeting, the commissioners at Snohomish County Fire District 28 announced that they'd considered all of the candidates for the job, but they ultimately decided that a change in leadership would hurt the district at this time.

The commissioners asked Fitzgerald to stay on as chief. He agreed.
