MONROE -- The city launched a new website Friday with the aim of increasing transparency and engaging with residents and businesses.
The website has a new colorful design and the slogan, "The Adventure Starts Here."
"The website reflects what the city is," Mayor Robert Zimmerman said. "We are off to a great start."
The intention is to provide a full-service directory to people living in Monroe and to businesses as well, Zimmerman said.
The website address is the same as the previous city site -- www.ci.monroe.wa.us.
There is still work to be done on the site. The content is expected to grow as more information is uploaded. The city also plans to get Twitter and Facebook accounts so people can follow it through social media.
Monroe started uploading its City Council agendas last week because that's some of the highest demand content on the website, public works director Brad Feilberg said. Different departments will add more information in the near future.
"The new website will push new information out." Feilberg said. "People can also give input of what they want on it."
In the future, the city would like to put demographic information aimed at attracting businesses to Monroe.
People can register to receive updates from the city on any topic they choose, Feilberg said.
Work on the website started Aug. 5 by Kansas-based CivicPlus, and finished one month early, Feilberg said.
The city is scheduled to pay $19,900 for the website construction, said finance director Dianne Nelson. The city also will pay maintenance costs for the next two years.
The city stopped updating the old website April 1. During that time, the city used an interim website.
