Eagle Scout earns volunteer award
Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring recently announced Danyon Heacock as the community Volunteer of the Month for November for his Eagle Scout project to build a bridge across Allen Creek on city-owned park property.
Danyon, 15, received the award at the Dec. 12 Marysville City Council meeting. He led a group of volunteers last September in building a bridge for a new park that is being built on 67th Avenue north of 88th Street, near Kellogg Marsh Elementary. The project included removing an old bridge, then replacing it with a new one that spans 25 feet, with handrails, pressure-treated wood and a deck.
Danyon managed 44 volunteers over three days, designed and gathered materials from donors, and raised donations that totaled $3,000. His parents are Mike and Carleen Heacock.
Three earn rank of Eagle Scout
The rank of Eagle Scout was awarded Dec. 17 in Lynnwood to following members of the Boy Scouts of America:
For his Eagle project, Sean Rose of Troop 304, Lynnwood, designed, built and installed three park benches and three picnic tables in Brier's Bob Cat Park. The picnic tables and benches were built from wood with metal frame supports and installed in the park's play area. Sean had help from his Scout troop and several adults. The project took 177 man-hours to complete. Sean started scouting as a Tiger Scout in first grade. He has earned 29 merit badges and completed three 50-mile hikes. Sean is a senior at Mountlake Terrace High School and plans to study computer science in college.
Jack Schierle of Troop 304, Lynnwood, rebuilt three park benches and two stationary picnic tables with benches at Esperance Park in Edmonds. The wood tables and benches were built and finished to the county park department's specifications for equipment in rain-prone areas.
The project took 154 man-hours to complete. Jack started scouting as a Tiger Scout in first grade. He has earned 27 merit badges and completed three 50-mile hikes. Jack is set to graduate in June from Meadowdale High School and he plans to enlist in the U.S. Army.
Joshua Ullerich of Troop 301, Edmonds, planned and constructed three large raised garden beds for the Trinity Lutheran Preschool. The materials used were provided through donations from the community. Most of the project was completed in a single Saturday with the help of friends and fellow Scouts. Joshua's project took 165 man-hours to complete. Joshua started scouting as a Tiger Scout in first grade. He earned 42 merit badges and completed a 50-mile hike. Joshua is a senior at Meadowdale High School and a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to study to become a medical doctor.
