Donate: Firewood needed for family

Retired United Methodist pastor John Shaffer is looking for dry, clean, cut firewood to donate to a family that has no other heating source.

Shaffer is prepared to pick it up and deliver it.

Give: Invest in education

During the past school year, 1,053 Snohomish County students received help from the nonprofit group InvestED.

Principals and counselors disburse the InvestED funds by identifying students who need support for things such as field trips, calculators, lab fees, sports equipment, college testing and application fees, and music and art supplies.

The organization conducts annual fundraising campaigns and provides an opportunity for people to adopt a school of their choice. For a limited time, InvestED is matching a portion of donations to specific Snohomish County schools.

Help: Hospice volunteers sought

Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County needs volunteers who can help with a variety of duties, from recording a life story, playing cards with patients, washing their clothes or serving a meal.

Assist: Museum seeks volunteers

The visitor services department at Everett's Imagine Children's Museum is seeking volunteers to help with exhibits and store maintenance.

Volunteers provide services when the museum is closed and must commit to a weekly schedule of either Mondays for three to four hours anytime during the day, or Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Fund: Police help with school food program

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is collecting monetary donations for a program that helps to feed needy families with children at Granite Falls Middle School.

As part of the school's Backpack Program, teacher volunteers fill backpacks on Fridays with food for the weekend and students return the backpacks the following Monday.

Checks with "Backpack Program" written on the bottom left line can be made out to the Granite Falls School District and mailed to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., M/S 606, Everett, WA 98201.

See: Student art on display at Schack

Marysville students have their artwork on exhibit at the Schack Art Center.

The artwork was selected by the Marysville Council PTA for the Reflections Arts Recognition and Achievement Program.

The exhibit, scheduled to run through Jan. 30, features the visual arts finalists by students in the Marysville School District.

The Reflections Program is a National PTA cultural arts competition. This year students were challenged to create and share art inspired by the theme "Diversity Means ..."

The Emerging Young Artist Gallery is located in the Schack Art Center at 2921 Hoyt Ave. in Everett.
