Front Porch: Be an adult pen pal

Be an adult pen pal
The Everett Elks are looking for 40 adult pen pals to write to Marysville middle school students whose primary language is not English.
Students and adults will each read selected books and write back and forth about them. This program is very similar to the successful Marysville Elementary English Language Learner pen pal program.
The Everett Elks recently received a national grant to help fund this five-month project at two Marysville middle schools.
Pen pals will begin corresponding in mid-January and finish in May. As required for any school volunteer, State Patrol background checks are mandatory.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, call the Everett Elks between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays at 425-252-4179.
