Mariner's KeiVarae Russell made the most of his looks in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Saturday morning, catching one of the two passes thrown his way for ten yards as his West team won 24-12 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Russell's catch helped set up the first touchdown for the West that put the squad up early.
The second pass thrown to Russell was a desperation heave on third-and-long as the West quarterback tried to avoid a sack.
Russell's completion came from Cyler Miles, a quarterback from Mullen High School in Denver that has committed to play his college football at the University of Washington. Miles was named co-Most Valuable Player of the game – along with receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, one of the top recruits in the nation – completing seven-of-eight passes for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Miles also had a four-yard rushing touchdown a couple plays after Russell's catch to give the West a 6-0 lead 7:48 into the first quarter. The West never trailed after the score.
