Port of Everett Commissioner-elect Tom Stiger was sworn in at the end of December for a six-year term representing the port's District 2.
Stiger is a lifelong resident of Everett and has maritime roots in the shipping and commercial fishing industries.
Stiger, who served on the port commission from 1964-1972, ran on a platform of seaport investment and jobs.
"I ran for port commissioner because of a very strong commitment to the port district," Stiger said. "Ports are the only public agencies whose primary purpose is economic development, and I want to bring focus to economic development and job growth."
Stiger also invested many years in the education arena and has a boat in the Port of Everett Marina. Stiger fills Mark Wolken's seat.
Comment on proposal for a roundabout
Snohomish County is accepting public comment on a mini-roundabout proposed for the intersection of 116th Street SE and 56th Avenue SE, near Everett's Lowell-Larimer Road.
The roundabout is intended to improve visibility, manage traffic and make the area safer for pedestrians. Existing roadway grades, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and planter strips need to be adjusted to accommodate the work.
Written comments on the project regarding State Environmental Policy Act review or the Land Disturbing Activity permit may be submitted until 5 p.m. Jan. 30 to: Julie Highton, Snohomish County Public Works, M/S 607, 3000 Rockefeller Ave, Everett, WA 98201.
Mill Creek: Route picked for new trail
Snohomish County Public Works staff have selected a new preferred route for the future North Creek Regional Trail.
The new route involves land south of the boundary of the county's North Creek Park at 183rd Street SE. The county hopes to finish buying the right of way by the end of 2014.
When complete, a 12-foot-wide hiking and biking trail should connect the county's McCollum Pioneer Park near Mill Creek with the Sammamish River Trail in Bothell. Portions of the trail already are in use in Bothell and Mill Creek.
